Client Interview | A Workspace Career Art Can Rely On at Compass Offices

A Home Base of Our Own—Where Career Art Can Welcome Clients with Confidence

Career Art provides recruitment, freelance matching and IT training services, among other offerings. In its recruitment support, the company mainly helps people in their twenties and early thirties, listening to each person’s experience and aspirations, exploring how they would like to work in the future, and supporting their choice of job.

When the company decided to obtain a recruitment licence, it chose Compass Offices Ebisu as its business base. ‘We now have a base where we can welcome clients with confidence—a home base of our own, you could say.’ We spoke with Junpei Yabiku, Director and CGO, who managed the office selection and contracting process, about why he chose Compass Offices and the value he has experienced over approximately four years.

The Background to the Office Search

  • Obtaining a recruitment licence prompted the company to consider moving from space in someone else’s office into an office of its own.
  • After comparing options in Ebisu, Meguro, Shibuya and nearby areas, the company made its decision based on the staffed reception, the team’s service and pricing.
  • Private offices and shared amenities created an environment where the company could welcome clients with confidence.
  • Over approximately four years, the company has experienced a consistently high standard of service, even as staff members have changed.

Obtaining a Licence Meant Finding a Proper Office

― What prompted you to start looking for an office?

When we first set up the company, we were essentially working from space in someone else’s office. When we decided to obtain a recruitment licence, we agreed that we should first establish a proper office. That was what prompted the search. We looked online at options around Gotanda, Meguro, Ebisu and Shibuya. I remember using comparison websites as well. That was how we found Compass Offices and arranged a viewing. Apart from final approval, I handled the office selection and the discussions around the contract.

A Spacious, Attractive Office and a Professional Reception Team Made the Difference

— What ultimately made you choose Compass Offices?

When I first stepped out of the lift on the sixth floor, where reception is located, I thought, ‘This is such a spacious, attractive place.’ What really stood out after that was having staff at reception and how well they treated us. My lasting impression was that they were very professional and dependable. We viewed other offices too, but some did not meet the requirements we were looking for to obtain our licence, while others were outside our budget. At places without a staffed reception, I also felt that welcoming clients might be a little difficult. After weighing up those points, we chose this office.

The virtual office tour also left an impression. It gave me a three-dimensional sense of the space that photos alone could not convey, so I could really picture the interior. I remember being drawn to the office after seeing it.

A Home Base of Our Own, and the Confidence to Say ‘Please Come and Visit’

— What changes and benefits have you experienced since moving in?

The biggest change was having a base where we could welcome clients with confidence. It felt like we had established our own home base. Before, I was a little hesitant about inviting clients over. Now I can confidently say, ‘Please come and visit.’ That has been a very positive change.

We work primarily remotely, so we use a private office for one person to suit the way we work. In terms of facilities, I was also surprised that everything was there—a refrigerator, a coffee machine, a microwave and a water dispenser. There are meeting rooms for four and ten people too, which makes it easy to choose the right room for the number of attendees.

Four Years On, Our Trust in the Team Remains

— What have you particularly valued over the years?

The service from the staff. The reception team has changed as people have moved roles or left, but I have consistently felt that the people here maintain a high standard. I think it is a great environment for anyone who values good service from the team. If I were to describe Compass Offices briefly, I would say ‘cheerful’ and ‘approachable’. My impression is that everyone on the team greets us warmly.

Events Give Me a Reason to Visit the Lounge

— How do you feel about the community events in the office?

I really appreciate them. I usually work on my own, and there is a coffee machine on the floor where I work, so I do not often come down to the sixth floor. Events give me a reason to visit the lounge on the sixth floor. I enjoy good food, but I do not actively seek it out myself. So I really enjoy having the chance to discover something delicious through food and drink tasting events.

Looking Ahead to a Larger Office and Events for Our IT Community

— How would you like to use the office in the future?

First, I would like to work towards expanding our office space. We are also considering whether we could book the lounge for an event, depending on the timing and what we want to do. We run an IT community, and we have been discussing internally how it would be nice to use the space for social events bringing community members and our organising team together, or for technical workshops for engineers.

A Good Fit for Growing Businesses and Solo Business Owners

— What would you say to someone considering an office?

I think it would suit start-ups and companies that already have hiring plans and expect to need more office space in the next year or two. It is also a good option for people running a company on their own. Setting up and managing amenities such as a water dispenser yourself takes time and effort. It is helpful to have the team take care of those things. I also think it would suit international companies where English is the main working language, as well as Japanese companies looking to expand overseas. Personally, I have not used other serviced offices, but after working here for approximately four years, I have come to trust the team. I would recommend it to anyone who values that.
